CRUISING CLUB.
; Need for Headquarters is Stressed. Members of the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club attended a social evening at the Silver Service Tearooms yesterday. The commodore of the. club (Mr H. A. Rhind) welcomed the large attendance and stated that one of the purposes of the meeting was to discuss the possibiliit.es of establishing a club headquarters. It was desirable that yachtsmen should have some place where they could gather together. He was pleased to sec the ladies present, and he expressed the hope that soon there would be more lady owners sailing against men in the races. The rear-commodore (Mr G. R. Curtis) said that it was satisfactory to note that cruising races were so successful that other clubs had included them m their programmes. The club had been asked to run the race for the Scott Memorial Cup, but he was of the opinion that the trophies should be permanently I allotted to the clubs best suited to run | the particular races. They should press ; to secure the Scott trophy race as a part o t the annual programme. There had been some difficulty over arranging fixtures in order that they would not clash with other clubs. • ..... The question of affiliating with the Pioneer Sports Club was discussed and the following motion was carried:— “That this meeting approves of the move to affiliate with the Pioneer Sports Club and recommends the calling of a special meeting of the club to consider the proposal.” The evening concluded with several moving pictures and depicted the activities of local yachting enthusiasts dui- ,
