A camera which, it is claimed, will be as important to shipping in the future as radio is at present, is being used by the United States liner Manhattan. The infra-red ray. which is used by the camera that takes the photograph, develops and fixes the negative in a minute, even if operated in fog, rain or snow. The < *ray* , | gives a range of 40 miles, Commodore A. B. Randall said, thus enabling a ship to be warned of any objects in its course over that distance.
