NORTH BEACH NOTES.
Meeting of Temperance Union. The North Brighton W.C.T.U. held the first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Mrs A. Florance presiding over a good attendance. Mrs S. G. Goring led the devotions and Mrs Ramsay gave the scientific fact. A letter with syllabus - enclosed was received from Miss B. M. , Harband, relinquishing her position as president of the union owing to con- ; tinued ill-health. On the motion of Mrs Lawson, Miss Harband’s resignation was accepted with regret. Mrs R. Parker tendered her resignation as superintendent of the Philanthropic and Good Citizenship Departments. She was asked to reconsider her decision. Mrs Mahan reported that a bring and buy afternoon held at her residence had proved a great success. She had sent, on behalf of members, one dozen ditty bags and a donation of five shillings to Mrs Norrie at the Seamen’s Rest, Timaru, and had received a letter of thanks for the gift. A letter was received from Mrs Lynn on bfehalf of the Dominion officers asking all members to contribute to the stalls at the Grand National Fair to be held in conjunction with the Jubilee Convention at Wellington from March 14 to 21 inclusive. It was decided to send articles to Mrs Claridge by March 5, she having undertaken to forward them to Wellington. Mrs Claridge was appointed delegate to tlve Jubilee Convention and it was decided to hold a bring and buy afternoon later to defray the delegate’s expenses. Mother’s Day will be held in March when Mrs Lowry will be requested to provide a speaker. Mrs A. Florance was elected president and Miss B. M. Harband and Mrs D. Goldman vicepresidents. The office of White Ribbon agent was held over till next month. Personal. Mr J. G. Irwin, of Bristol Street, is staying at North Beach. Miss Mary Hodgson, Bowhill Road, is spending a holiday at SprJngburn. Mrs M. K. Claridge, Racecourse Road, has been appointed a delegate to thte W.C.T.U. Jubilee Convention to be held in Wellington opening on March 14. Mrs Neil M’Glllivray, Osborne Terrace, is attending a conference of the Plunket Society at Dunedin. Miss M.
