Mrs Norton, Ashburton, is visiting Mrs R. Bruce, Glencarrigh, Alcaroa. Miss Patricia Stewart, Christchurch, is visiting Mrs T. Masefield, Akaroa. Miss Nancy Willis, Blenheim, is visiting her mother, Mrs Willis, Fendalton. Miss E. G. Todhunter will leave by the Ruahine early next month for a trip to England. Miss Dorothy Manhire, Puriri Street, Riccarton, has returned to Christchurch from her summer vacation. Miss M. Hay, England, who has been visiting New Zealand for the past two years, is a guest at the Bruce Hotel, Akaroa. Misses Doreen Samson and Marjorie Aldridge, Dunedin, are at present spending a vacation with Mrs T. Russell, Avonside. Mr and Mrs Melville Lake, Te Moana, Riccarton, are the guests Pt Mr and Mrs J. M. Moore, Beachcrofl, Ashburton. Mrs George Whelch and Miss Betty Whelch, who have been visiting relatives in Christchurch and Kaiapoi, have returned to Akaroa. Miss Elsie Keegan, Akaroa, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs Truscott, Mount Pleasant, Redcliffs, prior to visiting Timaru. Mr and Mrs E. G. Day, who have been the guests of Mrs C. J. L. Bratney, Winchester, have returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs A. Vere Winchester, Cashmere, are spending a holiday in Marlborough, where they are the guests of Mrs T. Renwick, Dumgree. Miss Kathleen Harley, Fifield Terrace, Opawa, who is staying with her aunt, Mrs B. S. Clouston, Blenheim,, will return home on Wednesday next. Mrs Richard Carroll, Wellington, is staying with her daughter, Mrs O. C. Harley, Opawa. She will return north next week. Miss Elaine Taine, who has been a sister at Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs, for the last few years, has left for Wellington to take a post-graduate course at Victoria College. Mr and Mrs Denys Hoare, Kilmore Street West, will leave this evening for Wellington, en route to New Plymouth, where Mr Hoare will attend the RotaryConference. The Rt. Hon Anne, Countess of Mexborough, arrived in Auckland this week by the Franconia. She is staying with the Countess of Orford, with whom she will return to London at a later date. Lady Mexborough is godmother to the Countess’s daughter, the Lady Anne Walpole. .
Dr and Mrs T. Leslie Crooke, Cashmere Hills, are staying in Waimate. Mrs Maurice Earle, Wanganui, left last night for the north, after visiting Mrs Edgar Stead, 4i Ilam,” Riccarton. Mrs C. L. Dearsley, Fendalton, will go north on Monday to visit her sister, Mrs Hall, Khandallah, Wellington. Mrs A. Gale, Christchurch, is visiting her sister, Mrs F. StephensonSmith, Percy Street, Blenheim.
Miss Elsie Julius, Wellington, is visiting Akaroa and is staying with the Rev A. 11. and Mrs Julius. Mr and Mrs Abbey Jones, Invercargill, who have been staying at Hanmer Springs,- will leave Christchurch for Wellington to-night. Mr and Mrs Walter Blundell, Wellington, will return north to-night from a visit to Hanmer Springs and Christchurch. Mrs - C. B. Cogan, Christchurch, is visiting her daughter, Mrs M. F. Perry, Wadestown, and will return south next week. Mr and Mrs F. Mackley, late of Springfield Road, St Albans, who left recently for Adelaide, sailed on February 10 for Cape Town, South Africa, where they intend taking up residence. Miss A. E. Sewell, of the Methodist Deaconess Home, Christchurch, who has been attending the Methodist Conference in Wellington, returned to Christchurch this morning. Miss Montgomery Moore, Wanganui, who has been staying with Mrs Norton Francis, Rossall Street, will go to-mor-row to visit Mrs John Montgomery, Fendalton. Miss Kitty Hewitt, Webb Street, will leave on Monday to stay with friends in the North Island before leaving for England in March to visit her brother, Lieutenant-Commander Hewitt, R.N. Miss Paula Scherek and Miss Eileen Lawson, Melbourne, who been staying with Mrs Alf Dickson, left on Thursday for the West Coast, continuing their tour of the South Islands Nurse Maude gratefully acknowledges clothing from the Women’s Institute, Akaroa, “ A Friend,” singlets for a wee mite from “ E.C.C.,” and a donation towards the cake and sweet stall yesterday from Le Bons Bay Women’s Institute. The appointment is announced of Miss Eileen Fitzgerald as matron of Bledisloe House, the new home for aged blind men at the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, Parnell. Miss Fitzgerald was with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces during the war.
