HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE.

Per Press Association. WIJAKATANE, February 23. A five-roomed house in James Street, Whakatane, owned by the Rev W. Smallfield, of Hamilton, and occupied by Mr S. Miller, rr.s totally destroyed by fire last night. The occupants were away for the evening. When discovered, the fire had a strong hold and the brigade had no hope of saving either the building or its contents. The building was insured for £7OO in the State Insurance Office, and the furniture for £2OO with the Commercial Insurance Company.
