Good Competition at Sydney. United Press Assn.—By Electria Telegra ph—Copvrl ght. SYDNEY, February 29. At the wool sales to-day 3939 bales were offered and 7710 sold, while 781 were sold privately. JThere was good competition by French, German and Japanese buyers and late rates were maintained. Greasy merino fleece sold up to 28id. The average price for the first three days of this week was 123 0s 7d per bale, or 18.9 d per lb. Hawke’s Bay Returns. Per Pre«» Asportation. HASTINGS, February 22. The wool cheque for the three sales held so far this season, covering Hawke’s Bay and Povertv Bay. amounts to 11,140.750. The total for the first three sales last season was 1432,992. These figures applv only to the wool sold under the hammer, and, in this connection, it should be noted that at the sales, particularly that on Tuesday last, a considerable quantity of the I
wool parsed in has subsequently been sold by private negotiation. Second Wanganui. The second sale to be held in Wanganui this season will commence at 7 o'clock this evening. The allocation made by the Wool Committee lor this sale was iX),IX)O bales.
