“ In some cities of Europe there are as many as 80 per cent of the houses without baths,” stated Mr H. Dowling in an address at Canterbury College last evening. At Grenoble, where Mr Dowling was studying in France, it was usual to have to walk anything up to three miles for a bath, which cost a sum equivalent to lOd. The alternative to that was to go to the public swimming pool, which was little more than a frog-pond.
