Miss Hazel Elmslie, Murray Aynsley Hill, who is holidaying at Ilanmer, willre turn to town to-morrow. Mrs B. George, Main South Road, Riccarton, left yesterday on a short visit to Mrs A. Patience, Parnassus. Misses Runa and Doris Gardiner, Purau, have returned to Christchurch from a holiday in Auckland. Miss Mura Black, St Clair, Dunedin, who is the guest of Mrs Stanley Harris, will return south to-morrow. Miss Iv. M. Gresson was congratulated by members of the Canterbury College Graduates’ Association last evening on her election to the College Council. Miss Freeman-Brown, Westport, who for many years was a member of the committee of the Royal Christchurch Musical Society, is at present on holiday in Christchurch. Miss I. S. Wilson, of Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay, a member of the party of New Zealand guiders to visit England in 1932 to be present at the coming-ot-age celebrations of the Girl Guide movement, was a passenger to Auckland last week-end by the Aorangi. During her two years abroad she has taken part in guide activities in several different countries, and has recently been guiding in Canada. The Rt. Hon Anne, Countess of Mexborough. arrived in Auckland this week by the Franconia. She is staying with the Countess of Orford, with whom she will return to London at a later date. Lady Mexborough is godmother to the Countess’s daughter, the Lady Anne Walpole. The appointment is announced of Miss Eileen Fitzgerald as matron of Bledisloe House, the new home for aged blind men at the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, Parnell. Miss Fitzgerald was with the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces during the war.
Mr and Mrs John Anderson. “ Inveresk,” Armagh Street West, are visiting Ilanmer Springs. Mrs 11. Goggin, Fendalton, has returned from a visit to Mrs A. 11. Clemens, Alexander Street, Timaru. Miss Ruth Haggitt has returned to Irishman’s Creek after visiting Christchurch. Sir John Sandeman Allen and Lady Allen spent the week-end with Mrs S. W. Marsh, Kaipai House, Peel Forest. Mrs Beveridge. Auckland, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs L. Oxley, Fendalton, returned north last evening. Miss Nora Firth, Papanui Road, and Miss Betty Trewin, Oaro, will spend a holiday at Picton together, leaving early next week. Mrs Michael Gordon left on her return journey to Hawke’s Bay last night after staying w r ith her mother, Mrs H. L. Pratt, Winchester Street. Mrs Hamilton Sinclair-Thomson, Timaru, is in Christchurch on a visit to her sister, Mrs Derrick Gould, Queen’s Avenue, Fendalton. Mrs Hugonin and the Misses Bullen, the Lakes, Kaikoura, will leave on a trip to England by the Tamaroa earl}' in April. Miss Isabel Turrell, Fendalton, will leave on Monday night to join Miss Beatrice Cowper in Dannevirke, after which they will both go to the Bay of Islands for a holiday. Mrs T. J. Edmonds, who since she gave up her house in Worcester Street, has been living at Warner’s Hotel, has left for Sydney, where she intends to spend some months. Mrs Appleby, Christchurch, who was staying with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs Raymond Appleby, Lindis Pass, is now staying with Mrs E. J. LeCren, Evans Street.
