ATHLETE’S SUCCESS.
Australian Congratulated on Feat. United Tress Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 20. In the Cambridge inter-collegiate athletic finals, J. C. Horsfall, an Australian up for his first term, won the 100 yards in 10 2-ssec, the 440 yards, in which he defeated Rathbone, in 50 l-ssec, and the long jump with 22ft 2in. “Has Cambridge discovered another Stan Wood?” asks the “Daily Telegraph,” commenting on the triple success of Horsfall, whom the paper describes as a great find. The “Daily Telegraph’s” critic says he is not surprised for Horsfall has already jumped 23ft 6in in Australia and has all the attributes of a natural jumper. He describes Horsfall’s defeat of the redoubtable Rathbone as one of the finest quarter-miles he has seen. Horsfall’s build, he says, is a type reminiscent of that of Dr Reid, the Scottish sprinter and British champion, but that does not infer that the Australian is in that category yet.
