SALMON RESEARCH.
Tracing of Migration by Marking.
A report on the markings of quinnat salmon yearlings which has been carried out in liberating young quinnat reared at the Hakataramea hatchery was received by the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society last evening from the Chief Inspector of Fisheries, Mr A. E. Hcfford, who asked that anglers should forward particulars of any marked fish they may catch this season. The president (Mr F. Steans) said it was a pity the request was received after the salmon run had begun, but the society should do its best to cooperate with the Department. It was decided to ask vendors of fish to notify the secretary of the society if any quinnat handled by them were marked, and also to bring the matter to the notice of quinnat anglers.
