ORDERS DISOBEYED.

Three Members of Infirmary Staff Dismissed. (Special to the “ Star.”) AUCKLAND, February 21 A proposal to reinstate three of the kitchen stafif of the Auckland infirmary who had been summarily dismissed for refusing to obey orders, was defeated at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board. In moving that the men be re. engaged, Mrs M. M. Dreaver said that their dismissal had come about as the result of a misunderstanding. They had been dismissed for refusing to keep the kitchen clean, but the chef in charge had been given another chance. Mr Mulholland said that, with the chairman (Mr W. Wallace), he had inspected the kitchen and found it in a filthy condition. He contended that

it was the chef’s duty to see to the cleanliness of the kitchen. He favoured giving the men another chance. Mr G. T. Parvin (chairman of the Infirmary Committee) stated that the chef had given instructions to the three assistants to clean out the kitchen three times a day. He got the material ready for them, but they walked out, leaving the job to the chef and a porter. Mr Wallace added that the affair had been reported to the house manager and superintendent (Dr Maguire), who had asked authority to dismiss the men for insubordination. This was given. Mrs Dreaver’s motion was lost and the dismissals were confirmed.
