Surgeon-Commander Martin, who has been visiting Christchurch, left for Wellington last night. Mr J. T. Sinclair, Rhodes Street, Merivale, returned by the Rangatira from Wellington this morning. Mr R. J. Brown, of the Railway Department. Otira, has received notice of his transfer to Hornby. Messrs J. Richards (Timaru) and J. Wilson (Sydney) are guests at the New City Hotel. Mr E. P. Reinond. of Paris, is visiting Christchurch and is staying at the United Service Hotel. Messrs C. F. Eskell and D. K. Leed (Wellington) are among recent arrivals at Warner's Hotel. Messrs A. Coutts (Auckland) and C. Harrington (Thames) are staying at the Royal Hotel. Mr C. F. Eskell. of Wellington, general manager in New Zealand for Universal Films, is visiting Christchurch. Messrs R. B. Bell (Timaru), J. H. Morrison, 11. J. Tubbs, P. E. Staple (Wellington) and L. Napier (Auckland) are at the United Service Hotel. Senator H. S. Foil, of Canberra, who has been visiting the South Island, left for Wellington by the inter-island steamer last evening. Mr 11. T. Armstrong, member for Christchurch East, and Mrs Armstrong, who attended the Waitangi celebrations, arrived from the north thi6 morning. The council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society decided last evening to send a letter of sympathy to Mr L. R. Brunton, a former member of the council, who is seriously ill. Mr A. B. Lane, manager of the New Zealand Press Association, who attended the newspaper conference at Hanmer and subsequently spent several days in Christchurch, returned to Wellington by the Wahine last evening. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr P. J. Molloy, who was vice-president of the society, was passed at last evening’s meeting of the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. It was decided to place on record appreciation of Mr Molloy’s services to the society over a long period. Mr C. J. Holsey has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Societv caused by the death of Mr 'P. J. Molloy. He was the highest on the list of unsuccessful candidates at last election of the council and according to the rules was entitled to appointment to fill the vacancy. He took his seat at last evening’s meeting of the council. Messrs J. Mawson Stewart, W A. Smith (Canterbury), J. Reid (Southland). G. W. Reid, president, James Smeaton, James Hogg (Dunedin), and P. B. Foote (South Canterbury j, all members of the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, left for Wellington by the Wahine last evening to attend a meeting of the council and the annual meeting of the society to be held there to-dav and tomorrow.
