CHARGE OF FORGERY.
Police Ask for Further Remand. A further remand for a fortnight was asked for by the police this morning, when Leslie Cecil Johnson, described as a farmer, aged fifty-three years, and a former employee of Gold Band Taxis, appeared on remand before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, lie was charged with, on January 17, making a false document by altering a genuine receipt in some material part with the intention that it should be acted upon as genuine, thereby committing forgery. Chief-Detective Dunlop said that the police found it necessary to ask for a further remand. He understood that Mr Young, who appeared for accused, had consented and asked for two weeks. When accused was remanded on February 14 it was stated that the defalcations from the firm then amounted to £SOO. Nothing was definite yet, however, regarding the total amount Accused was remanded until March 6, bail being allowed in the sum of £2OO, with two sureties of £2OO each. He was also ordered to report daily to the police.
