MORE CRICKET TROUBLE.

Jardine Objects to Australian Umpire in India. CALCUTTA, February 10. A startling development regarding the enormous number of lbw decisions given in the M.O.C. tour was contained in the announcement to-day that D. R. Jardine objected to Frank Tarrant, the former Victorian, M.C.C. and Middlesex cricketer, acting as umpire in the third Test. Tarrant, who was for years cricket coach to the Maharajah of Patiala and trained the Indian team which visited England in 1932 and has umpired all the important matches in the present tour, made an indignant public protest to-day. He said: —“ Where are the sportsmen of 1934 if the captain of the M.C.C. team cannot take lbw decisions with good grace? A world-renowned cricketer does not. while umpiring, give decisions against his better knowledge. He has his reputation at stake. The doubt cast on my impartiality on the eve of the Test is difficult to understand, as a month has passed since the last Test. I take it as a slight and an insult.’' Tarrant added that no meeting of the Board of Control had. to his knowledge, been held. The explanation given regarding the change was most unsatisfactory. He said to mention his eyesight was hardly becoming, because he was still playing cricket and wore no glasses. Tarrant recentlv scored a century for Patiala against bowlers who included Nissar.
