FRAULEIN IN PLAITS.
Abandonment of Bobbed Hair Advocated. FRANKFORT, February* 13. Gretchen may wear long plaits again, despite the opposition of the hairdressers, if success attend the Wuppertal Chamber of Commerce’s widespread campaign. The chamber is endeavouring to increase the business of silk and ribbon makers by inducing girls to abandon bobbed hair and resume their pre-war style, with ribbons and bows. Propaganda posters are displayed in the classrooms of all girls’ schools. The Minister of Propaganda (Dr Goebbels), in an address to a meeting of women, announced that women were free to enter the professions to earn their living, to smoke, and to do their hair as they liked. He denied that Nazism was hostile to women and aimed at excluding them from public life, degrading them to second-class beings. Nevertheless, the profession of wifehood and motherhood was the highest attainable.
