BY THE WAY.
Some Collections and Reflections. BY ONE OF THE BOYS. A dentist should always be a man of good extraction. An English gas company man found a monocle amongst the pennies in a slot-meter. A most transparent attempt at fraud. A correspondent says “ Let’s have a clean sweep.” So does mother; but each is as bad as the last. A convicted prisoner wanted a new trial. Not so much a new trial as a new verdict. Amazement has been expressed at the number of people who read in the train. There would be more if the man in front would hold his paper closer. An Englishman met with an injury that needed blood transfusion. A Scotchman volunteered and a large quantity of blood was taken. The Englishman sent the Scot a cheque for £.30. The operation, however, was only partly successful and more blood was needed. Again the Scot volunteered and the operation proved quite a success. This time there was no cheque for £SO. The Englishman has got so much Scotch blood in his veins that he sent only a letter of thanks. “ What is the mortar board I hear mentioned, so often?” asked the little girl. “ I’ll try to explain,” said Miss Cayenne, “ although it is a slightly complicated matter. A mortar board carried by a builder often has cement on top, and worn by a college professor often has concrete under it.”
