WILL NOT DEFEND TITLE.
Decision of Quarter-mile Athletic Champion. (Special to the “ Star.") WELLINGTON, February 15. Stuart Black, the New Zealand quarter-mile athletic champion and record-holder, has intimated that he will not defend his title here on Saturdav. While he won his provincial titles. Black feels that he has not recovered sufficiently from his recent motor accident to do himself justice at the championships, but he will compete again next year. According to private advice received, Black was Broadwav’s strongest opponent in the quarter-mile, and the Canterbury candidate now looks certain to win the double, the quarter and half-mile events.
