A decrease in revenue and also in working expenses, excluding rates and taxes, was announced by the chairman of directors (Sir George Elliot) at the annual meeting of the Auckland Gas Company. Receipts from the sale of gas and residuals, together with the balance of various accounts, amounted to £392.051. “This sum is £13,337 less than receipts of previous years, and represents a shrinkage of 3.28 per cent.” said Sir George. “ Actually the revenue from gas has declined by £1829. a reduction of .52 per cent and an amount which is not surprising in view of the general depression pi*evailing. The balance, after writing off the full amount allowed by the Income Tax Department for depreciation, in £71,979 Is 7d. Tt is proposed to allocate £IO.OOO of this sum to the income tax reserve account, to pay the same dividend as that of last year—s 4 per cent per annum, 23 per cent of which wan paid as an interim dividend—and to carry forward the balance of £lO5 14s 7d to next year’s account.” OVERSEAS MARKETS. The fact that yachting was one of the few sports in which New Zealand did not have representation at the Olympic Games was mentioned by Captain W. J. Keane, of Wellington, when replying to the toast of “ Visiting Yachtsmen ” at a gathering at the Pioneer Sports Club’s roems last evening. Representation should be pressed for, said Captain Keane, for he was sure that New Zealand yachtsmen would give a good account of themselves. !
