Wharenui Club’s Annual Carnival. SYMES RETAINS TITLE. The Wharenui Club’s annual carnival was held at the club's baths to-day in ideal weather. The principal event on the programme, the 50yds men’s championship of Canterbury, attracted most interest. D. H. Symes, of Elmwood, retained his title in an exciting finish, R. M’Kenzie just getting in ahead of M’Conville. Miss V. Berry put up a fine effort to win the 4 40yds women’s championship of Canterbury in record time.
