CASH ATHLETICS.
Evening Meeting Held at Hagley Park. The Canterbury Cash Athletic Club resumed its weekly meetings at Soi?th Hagley Park last evening. Fine racing was witnessed by a fair attendance. In the sprint event a close finish resulted, the judges having difficulty in separating the placed men. N. Billcliff, who won the 75yds, ran his best race to date. The SBoyds went to the veteran runner, A. Reese. Results:— 75yds—First heat: E. W. Collins 1, JC. Berwick 2, M. Cassia 3. Won by a foot. Second heat: N. Billcliff 1, DDoherty 2, T. Kennedy 3. Won by inches. Final: Billcliff 1, Collins 2, Kennedy 3. Won by inches, inches between second and third. BSoyds—R. Reese 1, H. Stevens 2, M. Cassin 3. Reese led for the first lap. closely followed by Stevens. Reese led into the straight and managed to stave off a challenge by Stevens, who ran a well judged race. Cassin was two yards away third. a Boys* Race—H. P. Doherty 1. S. Beattie 2, O. Marsh 3.
