HAWKE’S BAY PIONEER.
Woman has Lived in Four Reigns. Per Press Association. PA HI AT UA, January 31. A picturesque identity, aged ninetyeight, Mrs Johanna Maria Petersen, a native of Denmark and a pioneer ot Hawke’s Bay, who has resided here for thirty-seven years, mostly alone, has lived under four British sovereigns. Asked to what she attributed her longevity and her excellent faculties, she said: “If I had been rich I would have been worse than what I am, but I am poor and have to struggle along.” When the subject of the modern girl and her dress was mentioned, Mrs Petersen said she thought the tendency was to go too far in the direction of scanty attire. “ However,” she said, “ it is the fashion and I suppose it has to be, but in winter girls crawl about with their legs cold and I think that when they get old it will all come back on them.”
