PERSONAL.

Senior-Sergeant J. Fox returned from Dunedin last evening. Mr J. A. Blaikie, of Gore, is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs J. R. Dawson, T. W. S. Riley and L. T. Clark (Dunedin) are guests at the Royal Hotel. Squadron-Leader T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services, was a passenger to Wellington by last night’s ferry steamer. The Rev George M’Neur, of Canton, arrived in Christchurch to-day on a year’s furlough. He is staying with his brother, the Rev Alexander M’Neur. Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs R. Willis (Auckland), A. Kohn, T. B. Levy, W. Parton, H. Ross (Wellington) and J .Sneddon (Dunedin). Dr J. B. Condliffe, of the Economics and Financial Division of the Secretariat of the League of Nations, expects to visit the Dominion this year. The Ven Archdeacon L. G. Whitehead, Messrs G. W. Reid (Dunedin) and H. S. Hobbs were arrivals from Wellington by the ferry steamer Rangatira this morning. The Rev W. Bower Black, of St David’s Presbyterian Church, Auckland, who has been spending a holiday in Canterbury, returned north last evening. The Rev T. E. Fox, of Ringwood, near Christchurch on the Avon, England, is paying a return visit to Christchurch, and is staying at the Savoy Hotel. Guests at the United Service Hotel this morning included: Messrs A. E. Killworth. C. A. Ramsay (Sydney), H. I. Jones (Melbourne), F. M. Dennehy and J. Kennedy (Greymouth). Mr John Farrell, representing J. C. Williamson, Ltd., is in Christchurch completing arrangements for the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., New Comic Opera Company’s season, which begins at the Theatre Royal on Saturday, February 10, with “ The Merry Widow.” Mr J. R. M’Kenzie will leave by the ferry steamer on Saturday night to join the Niagara, which will sail from Auckland on February 6 for the United Spates. Mr M’Kenzie will go to England from the States, and expects to be away between seven and eight months.
