Misused Words.
JUSTICE SWIFT started a discussion in the Old Country recently when he defined “ allurement ” as “ putting a piece of cheese on a little wire in a mousetrap.” The Oxford dictionary confirms this definition when it says “ to attract by offer of some advantage or pleasure.” Milton wrote; “ Though Adam by his wife’s allurement fell.” Dickens -wrote of a “ young lady displaying her choicest allurements.” Pope wrote, “ Viands of various kinds allure the taste.” TOUCHSTONE.
