CIX WEEKS AGO word was received that the Carnegie Corporation had decided to found a research council in this country and to provide it with an annual grant of 17,500 dollars for five years. Some amendments were made and the constitution will be adopted after steps have been taken to have the council incorporated. The general aim’ outlined in the constitution is the fostering of educational research in New Zealand by every means in the council’s power, and valuable results are anticipated. It was decided to call for applications for the position of executive officer, whose functions will be to carry out research and co-ordinate various research activities under the auspices of the council. This officer’s salary was fixed at £IOOO a year, with travelling expenses, the first appointment to be for a period of three years. The council hopes that applications will be received not later than March 12, when the council will proceed to make an appointment.

Preliminary steps were also taken in the formation of local research branches with headquarters in the four main centres of New Zealand.
