Thrilling Drama Gives Peep Into the Future.
“F.P. 1 *• (Floating Platform No. 1), the thrilling drama which heads the attractive programme at the Crystal Palace Theatre this week, gives a peep into the future. Woven into the history and designing of Floating Platform No. I is a plot of outstanding interest. Step by step the audience Jearns of the extreme lengths to which opposition interests were prepared to gr* to destroy this remarkable creation. The story reveals how a young engineer named Droste places his plans before a great shipbuilding firm, which, after EHlssen. a noted airman, has intervened. agrees to construct this artificial island. Elitesen falls in love with a woman member of the shipbuilding firm, Claire Lennartz. but she. womanlike. changes her mind and falls in love with Droste during the absence of Ellissen on a record-making flight. Despite attempts to wreck the island during Its construction, the remarkable platform is finally conioleted and anchored in the desired position in the turbulent Atlantic. “ F.P; I’’ j s remarkable in more ways than one. In conception, execution and presentation, it Is outstanding. Made by the British-Gaumont concern in conjunction with UFA. it brings to the screen the accrued knowledge of two of the world's leading film-making organisations. Conrad \ eidt, the noted German actor, who has been starred in pictures made in America. Germany and Britain, has an ideal role in “F.P. 1.” No more suitable player could have been found for the part of Ellissen. The second of the trio of stars is Leslie Fenton, formerly of Hollywood and Broadway, but now of Britain. He is seen as Droste, but tard ‘ly recognised engi- ‘ H,s characterisation is excellent. i-J.* Ey iP/ )nd has the principal feminine part. The supports are good.
