CHALLENGE TO SEX.

Too Much Importance Given Subject. LONDON, January 4. Too much importance is attached to the sex-instinct, says Dr Cyril Burt, M.A. (Professor of Psychology at University College, London), and enormous harm is done by popular, nonsensical statements. “ The sex instinct is supposed to be so violent that it is difficult to withstand its temptations,” he adds. “ many being hypnotised into thinking that resistance is impossible. “ Hunger is a much more violent instinct than sex, which comparatively is w’eak, as the instincts tend to die down. “It is wrong to suppose that immorality and promiscuity cannot be stemmed, as the sex instinct is not more violent than acquisitiveness or pugnacity, both of which we are able to control.”
