Gatherings Held in Town and Country. COMIXG-OF-AGE CELEBRATED. On Saturday evening, at their home in Hamilton Avenue, Mr and Mrs James Ainger entertained many,friends to celebrate the coming-of-age of their onlv daughter, Kathleen. Dancing was enjoyed and several amusing competitions were held, the winners being Misses Kathleen Ainger and Dora Lawson. Messrs J. Mvhrq and P. Lane. The quests were:—Miss Kathleen Ainger. Elmes (Dunedin), Misses Billie Strachan, Ngarita Huston (Timaru), Rita M’Kendry, Dora Lawson, Lorna Hicks. Sybil Gumming, Eunice Bullivant. Marie Strangemere (Wellington) and Joyce Strachan, Messrs W. Quirk, W. Myhre. G. O’Malley, B. Ainger. V. Hicks, J. Myhre, C. Simpson. B. Myhre. D. Coleman, D. Panne 11 and W. Johnstone (Hanmer Springs). Surprise Party at Cheviot. A large number of friends paid a surprise visit to the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Y. Moir, Cheviot, to honour their daughter, Hilda, who is to be married shortly. The party took the form of a surprise kitchen evening, and an enjoyable time was spent in dancing, competitions and musical items. Competitions were won by Mrs J. Y. Moir, Miss M. Iloneybone and Mr L. Fuller. The guest of honour received many useful gifts. Mr E. Marshall, on behalf of those present, wished Miss Moir every happiness. Among those present were:—Mr and Mrs J. Y. Moir. Mr and Mrs K. Marshall, Mrs A. C. Fuller. Misses Hilda, Phyllis and Evelyn Moir, E. Cull, Ayi'es, M. Honey bone, E. and B. Penhalluriack, F. and R. M’Adam, H. M’Donald, G. Morgan, S. Flaherty and D. Crossen; Messrs W. Crampton, J. Flaherty, M. B. Haves, T. E. Crossen, W. Marshall, L. Fuller, CHoneyboue and W. Costello. Farewell Party at Templeton. A large number of members and friends of the Templeton Croquet Club assembled at the croquet lawn on Saturday afternoon, the occasion being a farewell party in honour of Mrs R. Darroch, who is leaving the Templeton district to take up her residence in Invercargill. A dainty afternoon tea was served in the pavilion, when the opportunity was taken by the vice-presi-dent, Mrs Leggett, to present Mrs Darroch with a farewell gift from members of the club. During the afternoon games and competitions were played, the games being won by Mrs Ward and Mrs Blakemore, Mrs Oldfield and Mrs J. M’Teigue, Mrs F. M’Teigue and Mrs Thomson, Mrs Leggett and Mrs Palmer. Among those present were:—Mesdames Darroch, Rowe, Wellsmore, Leggett, Thomson, Worsley. J. M’Teigue, F. M’Teigue, Oldfield, J. Palmer, Russell, Vickery, Ward and Blakemore; Misses D. M’Teigue and B. Blakemore.
