Cuban Government Takes Over Utilities. United Press Assn.—By Electric Te legra ph—Copy r i gh t. HAVANA, January 14. The Government seized all public utilities, which are virtually all Ameri-can-owned and are valued at about 200,000,000 dollars, to-day. This action was taken to ensure tie continuance of water, gas and electricity supplies after a general strike had fenced the complete cessation of these services. Company officials flatly refused the workers’ demands, and at six o'clock in the morning the workers halted the services. Street trams were stopped and the lack of water created an acute fire danger. Under the Government’s decree the workers are forced to perform their services, but there is no indication ot the basis, if any, upon which the Government expects to return the property to its owners.
