Mr R. W. Hill (Wellington) is a guest at Warner’s Hotel.
Professor Denham and Mr B. Whitcombe arrived from Wellington this morning.
Mr H. G. Somerville arrived from Wellington this morning and is staying at the United Service Hotel.
Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs A. Geddes (Wellington) and J. K. Wood (Dunedin).
Messrs E. V. Owen and M. Maher (Auckland) arrived from the north this morning and are staying at the Clarendon Hotel.
Mr R. M’Gillivray, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, returned to Christchurch from Nelson last evening. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., who has been on a visit to W estport, is expected to return to Christchurch by to-morrow’s .West Coast express. Sir Daniel Levy, Speaker of the New South Wales House of Representatives, has arranged to visit New Zealand shortly.
Mr J. Findlay (Auckland), who has been spending a few weeks with his sister, Mrs Styles (Sockburn), returned to Auckland yesterday. Mr E. Lane, of the Whangarei staff of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Limited, has received notice of his transfer to Kobe, Japan, and will sail from Auckland next week.
The “ Gazette ” announces the appointment of Mr Percival Augustus Hillary to be a representative of the producers on the New Zealand Honey Control Board.
Mr R. M. Edgar, of Wellington, has been awarded the junior Fred Kersley essay prize for 1933. Competition is open to junior members of the Presbyterian Bible Class Union throughout New Zealand.
Mr J. W. Deem, director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, left Christchurch for Dunedin this morning. He will return to Christchurch on Monday, and will then visit the West Coast.
Mr A. Orr, chief clerk in the Dunedin Post Office, has been promoted to the position of inspector in the Hamilton district, with headquarters at Hamilton. He will leave Dunedin about the end of January. Dr C. C. Caldenius, lecturer in geology at Stockholm University, and Dr G. D. Osborne, lecturer in geology at Sydney University, have returned to Christchurch from a visit to the West Coast.
The Rev C. B. Boggis, pastor of Island Bay Baptist Church, Wellington, has received a call to the Hastings Baptist Church to fill a vacancy caused by the departure of the Rev E. Nicholls, who will proceed to Wanganui. Mr W. Penseler, Consul of Germany in New Zealand and Samoa, will leave
Wellington by the Monowai this week en route for Brisbane, from where he will proceed in the German cruiser Karlsruhe on an official visit to Samoa. Mr Penseler is expected to be back in Wellington by the end of February.
