Mr B. J. Large (London) is registered at the United Service Hotel. Commander Bojde and Mr T. E. Y. Seddon arrived from Wellington this morning. Messrs H. Rogers and P. H. Thompson (Wellington) are among the guests at Warner’s Hotel. Messrs Roy Washer, H. E. Taylor (Wellington) and S. W. Ilassall (England) are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Mr J. E. Dix, for many years managing director of Beath and Company’s London office, arrived in Christchurch yesterday from Wellington. Guests at the New City Hotel include Messrs P. Thomson (Auckland). C. Young and G. M. Montgomery (Wellington). Mr J. A. Malcolm, officer-in-charge of the Invercargill office of the Tourist Department, has left for Melbourne to escort the Victorian Scottish Union tourists, who are to arrive in New Zealand oh January 9. Viscount Long, who was recently appointed temporary aide-de-camp to his Excellency the Governor-General, arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui from Sj'dney on Monday. He was ac-, companied by Viscountess Long. Mr L. S. Alsweiler, Invercargill manager of Messrs J. G. Ward and Co., Ltd., for the* last four years, is relinquishing his position with the company at the end of the year, having decided to join up in a business partnership with Mr C. S. Mac Kay, of Invercargill. Dr Keith Mulinder, house surgeon at the Wellington Hospital, has been appointed senior house surgeon at the Dunedin Public Hospital. Dr Mulinder is spending a short holiday in Hastings at the home of his gratidlather. Mr Thomas Laws, and will leave for Dunedin earlv in the New Year. The death announced from Dunedin of Mr James Waddell Smith, seventy-four years of age. formerly headmaster of the City School for many years. He was an ex-president of the Otago branch of the Navy League and of the Dunedin Competitions Society.
