Lights Fail at Operation.
The fact that a major surgical operation was in progress in one of the theatres at the Auckland Hospital on a recent evening when there was an interruption in the electric power supply was mentioned by the chairman. Mr W. Wallace, at a meeting of the Hospital Board. “It was a. serious position,” Mr Wallace said, “and arrangements have been made to have a storage battery as a stand-by plant for the theatres in case of emergency.” Spectacles For Relief Workers. Spectacles are in future to be supplied to relief workers or members of their families with defective eyesight. They will be provided bv the Relief Committee of the Auckland Hospital Board, and in return the relief workers will be asked to do a day’s work at either the hospital or the infirmary. Model Cars for Courtrooms. “ Personally, I think the Automobile Association should provide each Court with a small set of cars,” said Mr F. 11. Levien, S.M., in the Papakura Magistrate’s Court, when a witness was endeavouring to explain the position of cars at the time of an accident with the aid of rubber stamps as models. “ l will carry that recommendation forward,” said counsel for the plaintiff in the case.
