CANOEING IN THE SURF.

Danger of Being Blown Out to Sea. The catamaran recently purchased by the New Brighton Surf Club effected its first rercue yesterday afternoon by raving Colin Skinner, a New Brighton boy, who was being blown out to sea in a canvas canoe. Two members of the club. Messrs C. Cliff and R. Pockson, who had the catamaran out, heard the boy's calls for help, and with great difficulty managed to tow him to shore. In the meanwhile the patrolman, Mr F. Priest, had a surf team ready on the beach. The patrolman said he wished to warn the public to be careful of canoeing in the surf. The greatest danger was when there was a stead}' wind blowing out to sea. Indifferent swimmers who were using canoes in the surf should keep close to the shore and not get out of their depth.
