New Chinese decrees have placed taboos on modern dancing at Peiping, closed cabarets and prohibited slashed gowns introduced to make walking easier. Thev forbid women to cycle, as it offends the traditional modesty of the sex. Affianced couples are forbidden to walk with linked arms. In Shanghai offenders have been fined 7s 6d. Film close-ups and love embraces have been banned in Canton.
