CHURCH WRECKED.

Damage Caused by Gale on West Coast. (Special to the “ Star.”) GREYMOUTH, December 26. Early on Christmas morning a gale overturned the little wooden Anglican Church at Kokatahi, a settlement twelve miles from Hokitika, and the building is now a total wreck. In the early hours of Christmas Eve the gale lifted the building eight feet from the piles. The force of the wind abated during the day and a Sunday morning service was held in the church, though it was greatly strained and warped, by the Rev 11. J. W. Knights, the vicar of Hokitika. The gale slackened later, but many trees have been damaged and the destruction of property is considerable.
