"OUR" TRAMS
The increasing public interest in tramway affairs is a good sign in that it indicates that citizens are realising (hat the trams belong to them. If a family owned a tram outright they would use it every day of the week and make full use of it in the weekends, taking it to the hills and beaches. Citizens as a whole do really own the trams, and apart from the convenience and enjoyment they afford, they should be patronised as fully as possible in order to make the citizens’ investment in the trams a profitable undertaking. The man who keeps a dog doesn’t bark himself and the citizens who own the trams are foolish to look for other means of transport where the trams can serve them. Citizens of Christchurch should be proud of the fact that in spite of the well-known handicaps under which the Christchurch tramway system operates, the cash fares arc very reasonable, while concession fares ai»c the lowest in New Zealand. 10
