WAIMAIRI FRUIT GROWERS.
A meeting of the Waimairi Fruitgrowers’ Association was held on Thursday night. There jvas a large attendance. Mr G. Billson presided. Reports on the damage by the heavy frost were submitted. it was stated that, although damage was done, the Canterbury crop will be heavy. Mr C. G. Wilkinson said that, especially with Jonathans, the damage might not be perceived till the fruit reached maturity. The speaker also said that, with the exchange on American money being favourable to the fruit farmers, American apples would undersell New Zealand's at the commencement of the export season. Mr D. G. Goodman. Government orchards instructor, spoke on the danger of fireblight. In most orchards. a number of buds will be found dead. It was necessary that these should be picked off and burnt.
