MINISTER RESIGNS.
Sir A, Ngata Objects to Strictures. EMOTIONAL SPEECH. (“Star” Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, December 11. The Minister of Native Affairs (Sir Apirana Ngata) announced in an emotional speech in the House this afternoon that he had tendered his resignation to the Prime Minister as the outcome of strictures contained in the report of the Comptroller and AuditorGeneral.
The Minister said that whatever form the inquiry into the administration of the department would take, he would
court that inquiry. He wished, however, to issue a warning to other members to be very careful. The Prime Minister (Mr Forbes), in corroborating Sir Apirana Ngata’s statement that his resignation had been tendered, said that he had pointed out to the Native Ministor that it would be far from right, for him to accept the resignation till the inquiry had been completed, for that would involve prejudging the issue.
