HITLER REGIME.
Australian Business Man Impressed. “ON RIGHT LINES.” Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, December 11. Germany under the Hitler regime was discussed by Mr E. G. Parsons, a director of a large Melbourne business house, who is a passenger on the Maunganui, accompanied by his wife. Mr Parsons motored about 2700 miles in Germany. His view is that Hitler is putting the country on the right lines. He said the German people had made considerable recovery economically. There was much less unemployment. Hitler had formed many camps for the unemployed, clothes were provided, and they were paid about five marks a week. From his observations he would say that about 95 per cent of the people were Hitlerites. Hitler had the support of the capitalist class as well as that of the middle class and the lowerpaid class. He was taking considerable steps to assist the farmer, which was all to the good in the process of Germany’s rehabilitation. Mr Parsons said he was impressed by the fact that he saw hardly any uncultivated ground. Mr Parsons said that he noticed no disturbances in the streets. Of Hitler's army he saw many thousands of men. and it might be described as an armless army. Enthusiasm for the general cause of Hitlerism was apparent throughout the length and breadth of the country*. Even the vounger generation seemed to be wholeheartedly in shupport of the movement. Mr Parsons found that British people were greatly respected in Germany, but the French not so much so. There was a lot of feeling between Austria and Germany, and no German was allowed to enter Austria without paying a thousand marks.
Tourists were being encouraged to visit Germany, and special currency facilities were made available to them. They used what was called the speermark, which was ten per cent more valuable than the ordinary mark.
