SENSATIONAL DRAMA.

Popular Herbert Marshall in “ Solitaire Man.” “ Penthouse,” the excellent drama starring Warner Baxter and Myrna Loy, will be screened finally to-morrow night at the Regent Theatre. One of the most daring and most unusual screen plays of this season is “ The Solitaire Man,” by Bella and Samuel Spewack. which will be the headline attraction at the Regent Theatre on Saturday. Herbert Marshall, popular English actor, has the lead in this sensational drama of life among Continental erookfe. It is reported that the star even surpasses his brilliant portrayal of “ Trouble in Paradise ” in this production, in which he plays the role of a war veteran driven to thieving by financial reverses. The restraint and suave charm that have established him as one of the screen’s most successful leading men are distinguishing qualities of Marshall’s new characterisation. In addition to Marshall’s performance. a notable supporting cast contributes much to the success of the picture. Elizabeth Allan, in the feminine lead, is given the greatest dramatic role of her screen career so far. She is said to be even more appealing than in ” Looking Forward.” her first American picture. Lionel Atwill gives another of his effective “ scalp tickling ” performances as menace to the entire cast, and aristocratic dignity blended with a high sense of comedy is contributed by May Robson in her role as an English dowager who helps to dispose of stolen jewellery. Hilarious comedy is provided by Mary Boland, and Ralph Forbes is outstanding as a shell-shocked war veteran who gives his life to protect a friend. Lucille Gleason and Robert M’Wade are entertaining in their comedy scenes during lighter moments in the picture. Settings, the exact duplicate of many famous gambling resorts in Europe, are a feature, and every feminine player is brilliantly costumed in the latest fashions. Box plans at The Bristol.
