The Ashburton Club has agreed, and entries, instead of closing to-day, will close at 5 p.m. on Monday. * * * * Although J. Bryce will not be present at either the Ashburton or the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meetings he may have a representative at those gatherings in Avrmont Chimes, who, if started, will be driven by J. Bryce, jun. * * * * Stanley Bingen met with a slight mishap to one of his hips recently, and a few days ago it was doubtful if he would recover in time to fulfil his engagement at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, but the gelding is all right again and going along satisfactorily in his track essays. FOR AUCKLAND. J. Bryce intends patronising the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting at Christmas time. He will drive Kewpie’s Triumph and Red Hope and possibly Moko Girl. lie will reach Auckland several days prior to the meeting for the purpose of driving Kewpie’s Triumph and Red Hope in their training work. * * * * Tangatu, Marie Celeste and Desert Maiden have been nominated for the Gore Trotting Cup, of 325 sovs, which is for horses that can do 4min 45sec or faster. TOTE SYSTEM The decision of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club to abandon the win totalisator will be favourably received by a large majority of followers of the light harness sport. In future, the betting facilities at the club’s meetings will be similar to the old system. There will be one pool and the club has decided to pay three dividends on races that attract nine separate chances on the totalisator. that is, nine horses, the property of different owners, and not coupled on the totalisator. The dividends on these events will be declared in the ratio of 70, 20 and 10 per cent. In races where there are from six to eight competitors, two dividends will be paid in the proportion of 75 and 25 per cent. In contests in which five or fewer horses compete one dividend will be paid. GREYMOUTII FIXTURE.

The Greymouth Trotting Club will distribute £1925 in stakes at its summer meeting, which is set down for Thursday and Friday, January 4 and 5. The principal events are the Dominion Handicap, of 175 sovs., for horses capable of covering a mile and a half in 3min 25sec, and the Greymouth Trotting Club Handicap, of 220 sovs., which is for horses that can do 4min 37sec or better, two miles. The Wellington Trotting Club has issued the programme for its summer meeting, to be held on Saturday, January 13. The principal event is the Summer Handicap of 400 sovs.. for horses that can do 4min 28sec or faster. The Dispatch Handicap, of 200 sovs., is a mile and a quarter race for horses that can do 2min 44sec or better. Nominations for all events will close on January 3, at 8 p.m. VERY UNLUCKY. It is generally acknowledged that Royal Drusus was very unlucky to be beaten in the principal two-mile race on the second da/ of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s recent meeting, and his performance will cause him to be well fancied for the Mace Memorial Handicap to be decided over two miles at New Brighton on Saturday. The class is 4min 36sec, which means that Royal Drusus will have to give away upwards of 48yds. At Forbury he was off the limit of a 4min 3’2sec class. The field at New Brighton is a small one, which will mean much to the back-marker. He was off-colour on the evening prior to the second day at Forbury, but made a good recovery over-night and ran a good race. Since returning home he has been physicked and rested. He has brightened up considerably and displayed plenty of dash in his track work at Addington on Tuesday. He promises to strip fit and well for his engagement on Saturday. TROTTING STAKES UP. Forbury Park Gives Increase of £.500. (Special to the *‘ Star.”) DUNEDIN, December 7. The Forbury Park Trotting Club has fixed the stakes for the summer meeting at £3OOO, an increase of £SOO on the total for the corresponding fixture , last season.

DRY AND DUSTY. Training Tracks at Riccarton. It was very still and muggy at Riccarton this morning. The effect of a few hot days on the course is very marked in the long absence of heavy rain, and there was plenty of dust when the tracks got busy. The plough and No. 6 grass were available for fast work. Reverse Way. On the plough, Cricket Bat ran seven furlongs in lrnin 33sec. Rocket and Nightly were companions over nine furlongs. They were not all out by any means and completed their task in 2min Isec, the first halfmile in 52sec. Copyist and Horn’s Reef were let off with an easy half-mile. Shatter, who was joined by Imperial Spear at the half-mile, ran six furlongs in lmin 17sec, the first half-mile in 51 2-ssec. On the No. 6 grass, Guarantee dashed over three furlongs in 37sec. Southdown and Great Star were associated for six furlongs, run in lmin 17sec. Croupier galloped six furlongs in lmin 17 3-ssec. On The Plough. Going left-handed, Starshooter and Some Shamble ran six furlongs in 1 mi 4 16 3-ssec. Argentic went more leisurely in a similar trip and took 1 min 20sec. Bright Red and Sibella ran fiv; furlongs in lmin 5 3-osec. Monastic got over six furlongs in lmin 19sec. High Tor and Doiran ran half a mile in oOsec. Metal Bird and Wise Choice were sent together over six furlongs They went fast early but something went amiss with Wise Choice’s gear and Metal Bird finished well in front in lmin 19sec. Vintage ran six furlongs in lmin 16 3-osec. Cinders joined in lor the last half mile. Highbrow and Final Shot, also Gaysome, were let off with easy tasks. On the Grass. On the No. 6 track. Bell Hill and Cleaner dashed over six furlongs in oOsec. Ramo and Rational 11. covered seven furlongs in lmin 31 3-osec. Niggerhead and Royal Sceptre got to the end of half a mile in 50 2-osec. Minerval, picked up by Elude, ran six furlongs in lmin 16sec. True Shaft completed five furlongs in lmin 3sec. Nightguard and Haere Tonu dashed over half a mile in 50 3-osec. Variant, with the company of Friday Night for the first three furlongs, ran half a mile in 51 sec. Grand Review galloped six furlongs in lmin 20sec. Proscenium, with two unnamed geldings as companions, ran half a mile in 50 2-ssec, l-lurlingham disposed of seven furlongs in lmin 29 l-ssec.

Tout Ie Monde and Silver Jest sprinted three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Verden, with Skyrest joining in for the last half mile, got over six furlongs in lmin 15 3-ssec. Half a mile in 50sec was run by Marquillo. Eupator took 52sec. Night Recital ran five furlongs in lmin osec. Miss Purau and Copena reduced the time to lmin 4 2-ssec. Sweet Agnes did the last five of six furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec. Bright Shade and Manetho had full speed on when they reached the six furlongs, with the former two lengths in front, but Manetho was first home in lmin 18 3-ssec. Weatherly and Delice ran five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec. Red Dance sprinted three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. WINOOKA IMPRESSED. Winooka impressed when he won at Pimlico on November 4. The “ New York Herald Tribune ” remarked next day: “Winooka, the Australian sprint champion, proved himself a fine racehorse in winning an Invitation Special at six furlongs. The son of Windbag stepped down to the judges at the end of three-quarters of a mile in the fast time of lmin llsec. He was galloping all the way. Britt dropped him in behind Gold Step, and made no move until turned for home. He ran then as he pleased and won as he pleased. Winooka is a good horse.” It is quite a reasonable assumption that with the benefit, of more time for acclimatisation Winooka may next year accomplish a good deal in the United States. * * * * Fleeting Glance will be in the team that S. Barr contemplates racing at southern holiday meetings. She will be taken to Wingatui and Invercargill. Her recent form on the flat has been disappointing, but as she continues to shape well in her schooling she may develop into a good hurdler. RACING FIXTURr.S, December 9, 11—AVoodville District J.C.
