COUNCILLOR’S CONDUCT.
Committee Apologises to Deputation. The unusual procedure of a committee forwarding a letter to a deputation in which it apologised for the conduct of a councillor towards the deputation, was reported to the City Council last evening. The By-Laws Committee reported that when the question of the registration of bicycles was under consideration by the committee, Councillor 11. T. J. Thacker was present by invitation. A deputation representing the C\ r cle Traders Association waited upon the committee, and ’Mr C. Bell, the leader of the deputation, was addressed by Councillor Thacker in such a manner that the committee felt reluctantly compelled to send the following letter to him: “ Dear Sir, —T am directed by the By-laws Committee of the Christchurch City Council to express its regret for the attitude adopted by Councillor Thacker towards you when Mr Wear and yourself waited upon the committee as a deputation on November 14 for the purpose of placing - before the committee the view of cycle traders regarding the registration of bfcycles. The committee wishes you to please accept its apology for the manner in which Councillor Thacker spoke to you at this meeting. ” The report of the committee was adopted without discussion.
