WATER POLO.

First Round Matches are Started. Last evening the first round of the water polo competitions was decided at the Tepid Baths. In the senior grade particularly the games were fast and interesting. United A defeated East Christchurch by three goals to nil. H. Smith, who was in fine form, scored all the goals for United. G. Low was also prominent. In the second senior game United B defeated Elmwood by two goals to nil. L. J. Moorhouse and R. M’Kenzie score.l for United. M’Kenzie played a particularly good game. In the junior division Somerfield won by default from United and Beckenham defeated East Christchurch by two goals to nil. C. F. Dann scored on both occasions for Beckenham, while F. Hunter accounted for East Christchurch's only goal. The referees were Messrs Clyde Smith (senior) and A, Stokes (junior).
