COMPANIES BILL.
Accountants Approve of Amendment. A largely attended meeting of members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants was held last evening. Mr T. Auton, chairman of the branch, presided. The meeting had been convened for the purpose of giving members an opportunity of discussing the amendments which have been made recently to Section 140 (2) of the Companies Bill. Messrs W. A. Smith and J. Mawson Stewart, the Canterbury branch representatives on the council, attended, and the former, who is also a member of the executive, outlined fully the negotiations which had taken place with other accountancy bodies in the Dominion. A frill discussion took place, after which the following resolution. moved by Mr W. E. Best and seconded by Air W. H. Nicholls, was carried with only one dissentient vote:— “ That this meeting of members of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, after considering all the surrounding circumstances that led up to the position that has arisen in connection with Section 140 (2) of the Companies Bill now before Parliament, endorses the action of the Council of the Society in agreeing to the clause as amended and passes a hearty vote of thanks to the executive for its services in the emergency that has arisen.” A further resolution was moved by the chairman and seconded by Mr James Morrison as follows:—“ That this meeting places on record its appreciation of the assistance received from Mr W. A. Smith in outlining the negotiations that took place in regard to the Companies Bill and thanks him for his untiring efforts as a member of the council in furthering the best interests of members.”
