ST BEDE’S FETE.
Successful Effort Realises £IOOO. There was a large attendance of stallholders and helpers at a meeting at St Bede's College on Saturday evening, when the results of the popular boy contest held in connection with the recent fete were announced. Boys were chosen as mascots by the various stalls and the stall which raised the most money secured the distinction of having its mascot declared the most popular boy. Master Brian Barrett, representing the Lareto stall, won the contest for single stalls, and Master Kennedy for combined stalls. The total sum raised by the stalls was £968. Mr L. P. Barrett, president of the fete executive, said that the balancesheet was not yet ready for presentation. as some amounts were still outstanding. He had pleasure, however, in handing the Rector a cheque for £IOOO. An anonymous contribution of £IOO, he said, had been of great assistance. The rector of St Bede’s. Father A. Burger. S.M., thanked the executive for its work to make the fete a success. He was highly gratified by the result, which indicated that the work of the college was appreciated. Father Burger made special reference to the work of the chairman. Air Barrett, and the secretary, Mr Boland. The large number of people who had helped with the stalls and by contributions had also assisted to make the fete a success. The results of the various competitions held in connection with the fete it was announced, would be advertised in a few days. At the conclusion of the meeting those present were the guests of the college staff at supper.
