BANK SENSATION.
Police Constable Follows Up Clue. ARREST IN STREET. Per Press Association. WAIPUKURAU, December 4. The manager of the Bank of New Zealand was awakened at a quarter past twelve yesterday morning by a noise at a window. He communicated with Constable Sutton, who found that the bathroom window had been broken. A ladder and tools and a shoe were found nearby. Shortly afterwards the constable arrested a man in a back street. This man was wearing only one shoe. This morning Joseph John Blcnnerhassett, a motor mechanic, of Hastings, was brought before a J.P. and charged with breaking and entering the Bank of New Zealand by night with intent to commit a crime. Accused was remanded for a week. Bail was not sought. It is understood that no loss was sustained.
