LONDON-BOUND
More Hollywood Stars for British Films. More and more Hollywood film stars are being engaged to play in British screen plays. English producers are convinced that starring names which “ mean something ” to American audiences will force a way for British films in the once tightly closed United States market. Stars expected in England in the near future are Claudette Colbert, Charles Farrell, Clive Brook, Gloria Stuart and Nancy Carroll. One producer is making strenuous efforts to secure Ronald Colman for a British production. Since Gloria Swanson and Esther Ralston headed the march from Hollywood a little more than a year ago about twenty actors and actresses from America have worked in British studios. They include Douglas Fairbanks, sen., and jun., Victor M’Laglen, 11. B. Wariier, Leslie Howard, Sally Eilers, Bebe Daniels, Charlotte Greenwood, Boris Karloff, James Gleason, Ben Lyon, Constance Cummings, Sally Blane, Laura la Plante, Raquel Torres, Greta Nissen and Thelma Todd. The latest arrival from Hollywood is Charles Bickford, the 6ft lin red-haired “ cave man.” He descended on London with a pink face, shaggy eyebrows that danced continuously, and a bagful of epigrams. The next day he began work at the British International Studios, Elstree, where he will play Joe Prince, the rebellious circus “ boss ” in the scren version of Lady Eleanor Smith’s novel, “ The Red Waggon.” “ What made you come to England to make a film?” he was asked.
