GARDEN PARTY.
Amuri Presbyterian Church Jubilee Celebrations.
The celebrations in connection with the diamond jubilee of the Presbyterian Church in the Amuri district were concluded on Tuesday afternoon, when a successful garden party was held at the beautiful home of Mrs W. Macfarlane, Kaiwara, Culverden. The homestead, set among extensive gardens, lawns and shrubbery, is well known for its beauty, and it formed an ideal setting for the garden party. Mr M. M’Donald, Waiau, general secretary, was in charge of the programme. " The two tennis courts were fully occupied and clock golf was played on the lawn. Folk-dancing by Joy Crampton. Catherine Aldridge, Carol Denton, Hope Crampton, Joyce Foster, Betty Stove, Zoe Aldridge and Paddy Forbes was also enjoyed. Miss C. Black danced a Highland fling, and Miss M Grey, of Hawarden, danced the Irish jig. Mona Ingram, Colleen Sterritt and Nancy and Bruce M’Millan contributed a Highland dance.
Afternoon tea was served on the lawn, during which the Rev K. T. Larsen gave a short address and introduced the Rev J. A. Allan, of Riccarton. Mr Allan congratulated the people. of the Amuri district on their activities in connection with church work. He apologised for the absence of the Moderator of the Christchurch Presbytery and tendered his thanks on behalf of the people present to Mrs Macfarlane for the pleasant afternoon. The Rev D. K. Boyd, of Sheffield, and the Rev E. B. Moore, of the Anglican Church, Rotherham, were also present.
