MAURICE CHEVALIER.

Smiling Frenchman Has Lead in “ Love Me To-night.” Did anyone ever know the smiling Maurice Chevalier to fail in his lovemaking? In “ Love Me To-night,” which is having a return season at Everybody’s Theatre this week, the popular French star shows the world and a conservative ducal family that a tailor, even a tailor who is seeking his wily debtor, can win the most proud of princesses if that princess is played by Jeanette MacDonald. The lovely Myrna Loy (as the discontented countess) suggests without avail that the young man should fly with her; but Maurice calmly takes his place in the ducal circle as “The Baron Courtelin”. It is not surprising that the princess eventually tells Maurice in thrilling tones that she will him—whoever he is, whatever he is, where ever he is. But it is also not surprising to see the look of dismay on her face when she learns, through a practical demonstration, that he is a tailor, only a tailor! It is a decidedly amusing oceupatJon to follow the path ? f H , the t irresistible Maurice from the shop in Par *s to the majestic halls and glittering rooms of the castle where his princess pines for life. Charles Ruggles is well cast in part of the Duke’s nenhew Vi comte de Vareze, who never has, and never has had, any money. Maurlce s songs, of course, are caught up by alt the company, “Mimi” being an fa y oul , lte even with the Duke; IS plenty of laughter in the piece. The supporting programme includes a cartoon, “ Stopping the Show ”, a Paramount British News, and a Paramount ” Screen Souvenirs ”.
