LIFE SAVING.

Decisions of New Zealand Council.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving ; Society was held last evening, Mr G. E. I Billson presiding. There were present: —Messrs G. E. Billson ( Wanganui), F. J. Lawrence Scott (Auckland), B. O’Neill (Wellington), B. A. Brown (Manawatu), H. J. Ballin (Taranaki), S. K. Bassett (Canterbury) and F. J. Glaekin (Otago). The annual report (already published) was adopted. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, his Majesty the King; vicepatron, his Excellency the GovernorGeneral of New Zealand; president, Mr G. E. Billson; vice-president, Mr F. J. Lawrence Scott; honorary secretary, Mr S. Iv. Bassett; honorary treasurer, Mr F. J. Glaekin; honorary auditor, Mr H. i?. Feast; honorary solicitors. Messrs Johnston, Mills and White. A letter was received from Mr G. D. Griffiths, a Christchurch resident now in England, stating that he and Mr J. Struthers (also of Christchurch) had attended the Empire Conference in London as representatives of New Zealand. The writer stated that , s they had had a splendid reception, particularly from the chief secretary of the society (Mr S. J. Monks). It was decided to write thanking the Central Executive. London. for the treatmtnt given to the New Zealand, delegates. The secretary of the Wellington Head Centre wrote stating that the S. Longuet Memorial Shield had been won by the Solway College, Masterton. Advance copies of the newly designed certificates were placed before the council. it was decided that the new design was an improvement on the former certificate v. The , . 9 tago delegate, Mr Glaekin. brought forward, on behalf of the Otago Head Centre, a proposal for the change of the conditions governing the Wigram Shield competition. It was decided to refer the question of any change in the conditions of the competition to the annual conference of centres. On the motion of Mr O’Neill it was decided that the annual Life Saving So- /? onf erence be held in Auckland „ of the s U r f championships, and that all remits for the conference tnust be in the hands of the secretary not later than December 30. ’
