Intriguing Story of Life in a London Luxury Hotel. “ Bed of Roses,” Constance Bennett’s latest dramatic offering:, will be shown finally on Friday night at the Crystal Palace Theatre. The Golden Cage,” which will begin at the Crystal Palace Theatre on Saturday, is an intriguing story of life and love in a London luxury hotel. This production conies from the new Sound City Studios at Shepperton-on-Thames. An outstanding cast of British players enact the leading roles in this fascinating rpmantic drama, which is a screen adaptation of the clever novel by Lady Troubridge. Anthony Kimniins, a newcomer to films, gives a realistic performance in the role of a debonair hotel clerk, to whom everybody runs for assistance and advice. A great deal of the sparkling comedy in which this film abounds is due to the extraordinary nature of the demands made by the wealthy tourists who are guests at the hotel. Anne Grey, who was last seen in ** One Precious Year,” has the role of Lady Doxford, a “ bird in a golden cage,” whose only thought is for the good things that come her way. The supporting cast is a notable one and includes Jillian Sand as the stenographer, Frank (Jollier, who portrays Sir Andrew Doxford, arid Mackenzie Ward as Claude Barrington. Firstclass photography arid charming settings are features of this artistic production. Life in the superb hotel opens the picture with Kimniins, as .Mortimer, the reception clerk, attending to the many wants of the society ladies who can say nothing but: “ Dear Mr Mortimer, please do this,” ** Please, Mr Mortimer, do that.” Everything goes sniftothly for Mortimer until Lady Doxford (Anne Grey), a former sweetheart, comes to the hotel on her honeymoon. The reception clerk is left a fortune of £ISO,OOO by one of his clients, and that starts the womenfolk after him in full cry. The players all give of their best and many amusing comedy sequences add to the entertainment value of this really worth-while British production. Box plans at The Bristol.
